In 1989 young Bernd Beutel, a gifted master optician, opened his first optician's shop for members of the US armed forces on the Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne in Darmstadt. Due to being fluent in English (he worked in Iceland and South Africa before), his likable personality and of course his optical skills, he was well received. Bernd Beutel became a friend to the US military community. As a result the optician opened another shop at the Mainz Kastel Station in 2006. Following the closure of the barracks Bernd isn't gone ... he can still be found at his original store in Darmstadt-Eberstadt, open continuously since 1987.
